SSR Mining (NASDAQ:SSRM) revealed on Sunday that Turkey’s government has withdrawn the environmental permit for the Copler gold mine. The mine is to remain suspended until further notice following a landslide that resulted in nine workers being reported missing.

The company stated that several staff members are potentially facing charges related to the incident. This event dislodged 10 million cubic meters of earth across a 200-meter slope, according to Turkey’s Interior Minister.

The Turkish Ministry of the Environment conducted tests of the surface water, groundwater, and soil in the region, concluding that there was no contamination in the area’s waters, according to the company.

SSR Mining (SSRM) had projected up to 220,000 ounces of gold to be produced at Copler this year, representing approximately half of the company’s expected global output. SSR owns an 80% stake in the mine.
